VOLUNTEER

Volunteers are critical to ensuring we can achieve our mission to provide positive opportunities for our community’s youth and teens, especially those who need us most, to learn, succeed, and discover their full potential.

Volunteers are crucial in supporting our athletics programs by coaching, refereeing, or officiating. To learn more about when our various programs take place, click here or contact Nate Moneda, Athletic Director, at [email protected]

Please complete a volunteer application & Letter of Recommendation/Reference Letter. The letter will be used as a character reference and can include any information pertaining to volunteering or working with youth:

Once completed, submit your application in person, mail, or email:

  • Maxwell Clubhouse, 100 W. Verano Avenue, Sonoma
  • Email to: Maia Lazarus at [email protected]

Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley take the health & safety of our members, staff, volunteers, and community as our number one priority.

Due to the nature of our work and the close proximity of our volunteers working with children, they are all background checked and fingerprinted through the Department of Justice (DOJ) to ensure there are no previous issues when working with youth. Fingerprints are completed once and track via the DOJ. In addition, a yearly online check is conducted.

Once your volunteer application has been received you will be sent the needed documentation and information to complete both background checks.

Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Training:

Every volunteer is required to complete and pass the Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Spillett University before starting. This training will also cover mandated reporting requirements. This training allows our volunteers to better recognize child abuse and neglect and gives them the knowledge and skills to help them carry out their responsibilities.

The training can be found HERE

This Volunteer Handbook (En español) is an important document intended to help volunteers become acquainted with Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley (BGCSV). This document is intended to provide guidelines and expectations when volunteering at BGCSV.

Once you have completed your review of the handbook you will be asked to sign the Code of Conduct/Handbook Acknowledgement (En español) page which outlines a handful of the main points from the handbook.

All volunteers will be asked to attend a volunteer orientation where they tour the Clubhouse and hear general housekeeping items, such as where the bathrooms are, who to contact while you’re at the club if necessary, location of first aid supplies, and much more.  We will also take time to review a few key points of the handbook and answer any questions.
